Blue Dichroic Glass Pendant in Sterling Silver
This listing is for a very unique pendant featuring handmade dichroic glass. The blue glass is accented with handwoven coils and weaving in sterling silver wire. The wire work was carefully designed in a balanced and elegant style to create a tasteful yet eye-catching piece. The pendant is hung on a silver-plated copper chain and packaged in hand-stamped gift box. This sparkly necklace is a beautiful choice for the woman who loves unique jewelry that stands out.
Dichroic glass is unique glass which displays two different colors, by undergoing a color change in certain lighting conditions. The term "dichroic" shows this meaning by the prefix "di", which means "two", and the suffix "chroic", meaning "colors." Modern dichroic glass was a fortunate by-product of research by NASA for dichroic filters, but color changing glass dates back to at least the 4th century AD. The unique glass is produced by layering glass between micro-amounts of metals or oxides, which are the substance that creates the beautiful color shifts depending upon the angle of view. This piece is iridescent, intricate, and certainly eye-catching!
SIZE: See last photo for a size reference
CHAIN: The pendant is photographed on a silver plated snake chain, available in lengths of 16 or 20 inches. 16 inches is the default option, just add a "message to seller" at checkout if you prefer 20 inches. The silver plating on the chain will eventually wear off, but its a great affordable option. I also have a variety of styles of sterling silver chains available to enhance your pendant in the Chain Section starting at $15.
CLEANING: All my sterling silver jewelry also comes with a non-tarnish strip and bag that prevent tarnish by absorbing and trapping the sulfides and other pollutants in the air. If kept in the sealed bag or jewelry with your silver jewelry the strip will prevent tarnishing for approximately 6 months. Silver and glass jewelry can be cleaned in a dip solution such as Hagerty Jewel Clean. To remove oils and debris use a gentle toothbrush and warm soapy water.
