Abalone Shell Pendant in Dark Patina Silver
A tasteful pendant, which features a natural abalone shell in a unique yet elegant design. The iridescent shell bead is strung and accented with sterling silver wire. This shimmery and enchanting necklace is sure to bring out the carefree nature of your inner mermaid.
You can choose can between dark patina silver or bright sterling silver. The patina is oxidation with a sulfur solution that turn the piece black, then is polished to restore highlights to raised areas. The shimmering shell stands out beautifully with the darkened silver, no longer competing with the silver's brilliance and shine, creating a mysterious and unique piece of jewelry.
Each piece is made-to-order, and the photos shown are examples of the piece you will receive. Your jewelry will be made with the same wire work technique and same size and quality of stone. There will be natural variation in the colors and patterns of the stones, as well as variation due to the handmade nature, ensuring that your jewelry is truly unique! Abalone shell is created on the inner layer of the shells of mollusks in the genus Haliotis. It is made of a blend of minerals (called nacre) that are secreted by the oyster and deposited on the inside of its shell for protection, yet it also results in a lovely iridescent sheen. Abalone shell was used by Native Northwest American Indians for cleansing, offerings and prayers (as well as jewelry, of course!). Abalone is also thought to help calm emotions like the waves of the tide, clearing fear and sorrow from the heart chakra.
Each patina pendant comes with an 18" black cord. Upgrades to sterling silver chains are available to accent your pendant with a high quality chain in the style of your choice in the Chain Section. Any style chain can be put through the same patina process to match the pendant.
SIZE: 1 1/8" x 5/8" at the widest points, please also see the fifth photo for a size reference. The focal point bead is 14mm in diameter.

CLEANING: Due to the patina you never need to polish your silver. Shells are too delicate to be cleaned with silver polish or any jewelry cleaning solution that is not formulated for pearls and delicate stones. However any dirt and debris can be easily removed with a gentle toothbrush and warm soapy water.
