Bold statement necklace featuring a large labradorite gemstone cabochon accented with rainbow moonstones. All of the stones feature a flashes of color when hit by the sunlight, due to unique arrangement of atoms in their crystal structure. The stones are set with intricate weaves, coils and spirals of sterling silver wire. The wire-wrapped centerpiece hangs from a string of flashy labradorite beads. The necklace is finished with sterling silver chain and clasp, and is adjustable from 18 to 22 inches. It arrives packaged in a hand-stamped gift box. GEMSTONE PROPERTIES: Rainbow moonstone is actually a variety of the mineral labradorite, which is why they both share the same flashy visual effect. When labradorite has a white base rock (aka matrix) it is called rainbow moonstone. If it has a dark matrix, it is just called labradorite. They are both plagioclase feldspar minerals with the same crystal structure, and it is their crystal structure which creates its beautiful interactions with light. The layers in the internal structure of labradorite allow it to reflect certain colors, an effect called "labradorescence". When hit by the sun, the stone lights up with a pearly blue to rainbow iridescence. In dim lighting the stone is dull gray or white, hiding its true beauty.
