Long Blue Dichroic Glass Pendant in Aluminium Wire
A long dichroic glass pendant set with aluminium wire work. The glass has a light pinkish base and layers of blue dichroic glass. The shimmery glass is accented with elegant swirls and spirals of aluminium wire. The photos truly do not do the sparkle and colors of the glass justice.
Dichroic glass is unique glass which displays two different colors by undergoing a color change in certain lighting conditions. The term "dichroic" shows this meaning by the prefix "di", which means "two", and the suffix "chroic", meaning "colors." Modern dichroic glass was a fortunate by-product of research by NASA for dichroic filters, but color changing glass dates back to at least the 4th century AD. The unique glass is produced by layering glass between micro-amounts of metals or oxides, which are the substance that creates the beautiful color shifts depending upon the angle of view.
